Besides research in various areas of biomedicine, which is the core of its scientific activity, the IRCCS-Istituto di Ricerche Farmacologiche Mario Negri organizes training activities for prospective researchers. Even though the Institute does not establish working relationships with young undergraduates or graduates in science, it offers them the opportunity to attend courses of training and qualification in the biomedical/experimental and clinical/statistical areas. These courses involve an admission test (regulated by a call), full-time attendance, provision of a scholarship (after one month trial) and awarding of a title.
The following training and qualification courses are currently available:
· Tecnico in Ricerca Biochimica (Title: Attestato di Specializzazione, issued by the Institute) *
· Specialista in Ricerca Biomedica (Title: Attestato di Competenza, issued by the Lombardy Region)
· Scuola Avanzata in Farmacologia Applicata (Title: Diploma, issued by the Institute) *
· Corso di Perfezionamento in Scienze Farmacologiche (Title: Diploma awarded by the Institute, recognized by the Ministry of Education and similar to the title of Doctor of Philosophy)
· Corso di PhD (Title issued by the Open University, UK)
* In the current academic year (2015-2016), no call for the registration to this course will be published.
In addition to these training and qualification courses, it should be noted that the Institute provides other educational opportunities (such as the Master di I livello in Ricerca Clinica, Corso di Clinical Monitor and courses in collaboration with the University of Maastricht), as well as thesis and stage opportunities in collaboration with various Italian Universities.
Our courses are characterized by a hands-on approach, which is based on full-time involvement of students in specific research projects to be carried out in one of the Institute Departments. Training is provided in Environmental Health, Biochemistry and Molecular Pharmacology, Bioengineering, Molecular Medicine, Renal Medicine, Neuroscience, Oncology, Cardiovascular Research, Public Health and Epidemiology, which represent the broad areas of scientific interest each Department focuses on.
Each Department consists of different laboratories and students are assigned to one of these laboratories where they carry out their scientific activity. This ensures that students are followed properly during the various phases of their training, interacting with experienced researchers, participating in innovative projects and using advanced technology. As calls are issued when a significant number of new student positions become available, we urge prospective candidates to check this site for the publication of the forthcoming calls.
In addition to the criteria listed in each course section and in the related calls, we stress that full-time attendance rules out the possibility to enrol in outside employment or training. In general, it is essential that students participate in all the training activities (including seminars and study of the scientific literature) with interest and dedication, demonstrating punctuality, self-discipline and collaborative spirit.
