Consorzio Mario Negri Sud (S.Maria Imbaro)
The Consorzio Mario Negri Sud (CMNS) is a non-profit consortium between the
Mario Negri Institute for Pharmacological Research (IRFMN), the Provincia of Chieti and the Abruzzo
Region.
It was inaugurated in 1987. There are several separate buildings, totalling 18.000 square
meters, including a “Foresteria” providing 40 mini-apartments for young researchers.
The CMNS is composed of 2 major Departments (Department of Cell Biology and Oncology – DCBO;
Department of Pharmacology and Clinical Epidemiology - DFCE), and a Center for Environmental
Sciences (CSA), for a total of 18 research laboratories and about 200 people.
The following facilities are located at CMNS and are an important part of its activities:
• Research Study Center of the Italian Society of Hospital and Public
Pharmacy (Centro Studi della Società Italiana di Farmacia Ospedaliera e Pubblica, SIFO);
• Electron and Confocal Microscopy Center (Centro di Microscopia
Elettronica e Confocale) TeEMCoF, financed by Italian Telethon;
• Secretariat of Italian Association of Lowe's Sindrome (AISLO), a genetic,
rare disease whose basic mechanisms have been partially identified by researchers of DCBO.
Since 1997, the Negri Sud ONLUS Foundation, a non-profit organization, contributes to the
research, training and scientific communication activities of CMNS, both collecting financial help
from public and private institutions and the general public, and supporting directly research
fellowships and projects.
