The Mario Negri Institute hosts the Italian Cochrane Centre (ICC), which
started up in 1994. The Centre’s objectives include supporting the various activities of the
Cochrane Collaboration, a non-profit international organisation that aims at helping people make
well-informed decisions about healthcare by producing, updating and promoting systematic reviews of
the effects of healthcare interventions. There are over 4.400 systematic reviews and review
protocols in the Cochrane Library today.
The ICC provides methodological and practical support to Italian health workers collaborating
with “International Cochrane” Groups. The ICC also organizes short courses, workshops and a Master
course on “Evidence Based Medicine and the Methodology of Healthcare Research”.
The ICC also conducts its own research projects on how to transfer the results of research
into clinical practice and collaborates with several national and regional health authorities in
charge of promoting innovation and healthcare quality within the Italian National healthcare
System.
