GISSI (Gruppo Italiano per la Sopravvivenza nell’Infarto Miocardio) is a
product of the collaboration between the Mario Negri Institute and the Associazione Nazionale dei
Medici Cardiologi Ospedalieri (ANMCO). Today it is considered one of the best-qualified
research teams in the cardiovascular field. GISSI has produced a series of large-scale
clinical trials (
GISSI 1,
GISSI 2,
GISSI 3,
GISSI Prevenzione), involving
over 60,000 patients with myocardial infarction.
In the twenty years since GISSI was set up, its studies have been widely recognized by the
international cardiology community and are considered a methodological landmark.
GISSI’s work has now spread from myocardial infarction to other cardiovascular pathologies
with a wide impact, like heart failure and atrial fibrillation, on which large-scale clinical
studies are now in progress.
